How to Prepare
Rinse the barnyard millet thoroughly under running water 2-3 times to remove impurities.
In a pressure cooker or pot, add the rinsed millet and water in a 1:2.5 ratio (1 cup millet to 2.5 cups water).
Add a pinch of salt and 1 tsp of ghee or oil to prevent sticking (optional).
If using a pressure cooker, cook for 2 whistles on medium heat. If using a pot, cook on medium heat for 20-25 minutes until the millet is soft and water is absorbed.
Let it rest for 5 minutes, then fluff with a fork.
Serve hot with sambar, chutney, or any side dish of choice.
