How to Prepare

  1. Soak the chana dal in water for 6 hours or overnight.
  2. Drain the soaked dal and grind it into a coarse paste without adding water.
  3. Heat ghee in a heavy-bottomed pan over medium heat.
  4. Add the ground chana dal paste to the pan and stir continuously to avoid lumps.
  5. Cook the mixture on low heat for 20-25 minutes until it turns golden brown and aromatic.
  6. In a separate pan, prepare sugar syrup by boiling sugar and water until it reaches a one-string consistency.
  7. Add the sugar syrup to the cooked dal mixture and mix well.
  8. Stir in cardamom powder and chopped nuts, and cook for another 5 minutes.
  9. Turn off the heat and let the halwa rest for a few minutes before serving.
  10. Garnish with additional nuts if desired and serve warm.
