How to Prepare

  1. Peel the raw bananas and cut them into small cubes. Soak them in water with a pinch of turmeric to prevent discoloration.
  2. Heat 5 tablespoons of oil in a large frying pan or kadai over medium heat.
  3. Add 2 teaspoons of mustard seeds and wait until they splutter.
  4. Add 2 teaspoons of urad dal and 2 teaspoons of chana dal. Fry until they turn golden brown.
  5. Add 10-12 curry leaves
  6. 2 teaspoons of asafoetida, and 5-6 dried red chilies. Sauté for a few seconds.
  7. Add the cubed raw bananas (drained from water) to the pan. Mix well to coat with the tempering.
  8. Add 2.5 teaspoons of turmeric powder
  9. 5 teaspoons of red chili powder
  10. 5 teaspoons of coriander powder, and salt to taste. Mix thoroughly.
  11. Cook on medium-low heat for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the bananas are tender and slightly crispy on the outside.
  12. Add 5 tablespoons of grated coconut (optional) and mix well. Cook for another 2 minutes.
  13. Turn off the heat and serve hot with rice or roti.
