How to Prepare
Rinse the soaked white peas thoroughly and pressure cook with 6 cups of water and 1 tsp salt for 2 whistles or until soft but not mushy. Drain and set aside.
Heat 4 tbsp oil in a large pan or kadai over medium heat.
Add 2 tsp mustard seeds and let them splutter.
Add 4 tsp urad dal and 4 dried red chilies, and sauté until the dal turns golden brown.
Add a pinch of asafoetida and 20 curry leaves, and sauté for a few seconds.
Add the cooked white peas to the pan and mix well to coat with the tempering.
Add 1 cup grated coconut and salt to taste, and mix thoroughly.
Cook for 2-3 minutes on low heat, stirring occasionally.
Turn off the heat, garnish with 1/2 cup chopped coriander leaves, and serve warm.
